20230827 – Runavik Faroe Islands

Country Life on Eysturoy

Today we had two main stops and a third at shop selling wool products.

First we drove to Gota Village to visit the Blasastove Museum which included several buildings as well as a church and boat house.  From there we traveled to a sheep house and the farmer explained his operation.  He also owned the shop we visited after that sold the wool products.

He explained that the shop was the result of a school project that he worked on as a student 20 years earlier.  Everyone involved with the farm and shop were family members and the farmer was the 6th generation to manage the farm.

Talking with our guide he explained the people paid 40-45% in taxes – but that all schooling and medical needs were free, including the 2 hour flight to Demark for serious medical needs.  He told us that there were three schools of different age levels in the area and that there were also three hospitals and that the local pool was located at one of the schools.
