Jan. 9th 2024 Goa(Mormugao) India

The ship docked at a working port that exported iron ore and imported coal.

After leaving the port, we rode the bus for about an hour and 15 minutes and arrived at two churches, one across the street from the other.

The first church we visited was made of red colored stone one and was built in the 1500s.  This was the Basillica of Born Jesus in Bainguinim.

The white church across the street (Velha Goa) was the newer of the two.

After visiting the churches we travel to a downtown area where shops and market places happen to be – Panaji – Altinho  and we had a half hour to visit a six block area.

Last we went to individual’s home that had also been built in the 1500s. The best part was visiting the owner, who was the seventh generation of the home and visiting his pet Indian squirrels. The squirrels had fallen from a tree when they were young and needed to have someone take care of them. The squirrels live in a cage, but at times the cage is left open and the squirrels are free to come and go. . I would explain it as being similar to people that have an outdoor cat The return trip took another hour and we drove past one of the 36 beaches the GOA area is famous for.
